a gathering ... event announcement

you may have noticed a few little tweaks & changes to this site lately... as I said in the beginning ... its an evolution , a constant growing & becoming , that I think will never truly be finished ... so i thank you for following along on this journey & growing with me ... further down this post you will read a little intro to one of the next [ big ] steps i am taking to explore something I am truly passionate about ...but a little prelude to that first ...

in my bedroom reveal blog post , i shared that i want my future projects & posts to be as transparent as possible...I hope this is true when you visit here ... I'm a what you see is what you get kind of girl ... I say "take it or leave it - a lot "...

so, when i was looking at all the lovely photo's she took of me to use on this site - It struck me - the last thing i want people to say - " ahhh another pretty picture ..."

i mean, meg does do a pretty mean job of making a under-slept over buzzed on coffee mom look quite zen but let's be real here - i just wanted to share some elements of these photos that might not be as obvious as the bags under my eyes ... glasses are a lifesaver ...;)

this couch... beauty ain't she? -- I just love the silly thing. the color, the buttons [ lee, not so much ] & anyone who knows my mom knows she is a victorian fanatic ... as far different from her as I am in that aspect ... this piece is a little nod to her i think ... & i had to get my brother in law to pay the $40 it was selling for at a community garage sale we visited in college cuz i had no cash on me & i just had to have it ... I don't know if I will ever let her go or bring myself to reupholster that green velvet ... and i call myself not sentimental ;)

the picture above . its actually not a picture -  it's a [ very ] ugly window that we can't replace until we are ready to tackle a more major reno... so ... I stapled some canvas to a piece of plywood & whipped up my own little painting to cover it up ... & it does the trick and i always like to see the look on people's faces when i tell them my clever little hack ;)

the side tables . lee is usually a pretty good sport about my little DIY schemes & the enthusiasm did last long enough to go out to the trees & cut me a stack of pine - and to fashion one table out of it ... but it was more time consuming than even his attention span could handle - so I luckily found some help to finish the other ... they were worth the extra effort though & i don't think i will ever tire of them ...

are you starting to see where this is going ? ...

the throw. is made from canadian alpaca wool & was a gift from my mother in law ... its the one everyone reaches for when they're cold & it will probably be sitting in my living room ...forever...

my outfit. i used to try to make myself wear color. then, i realized what a waste of time & money it was . i feel happiest when I am wearing black or grey... seriously, i just don't care what people say anymore but I like what neiman marcus said [ whoever that is ...]

women who wear black lead colorful lives

i like to think that's true ... like i said - take it or leave it... ;) I am also wearing my favorite shoes, and the one watch i own & wear every day. that's about as fancy as it gets, folks.

and lastly - the coffee mug. I almost always have one in hand. I have realized now why as a child in my obsession with ' Little House on the Prairie' why they drove miles to town in freezing cold weather on horseback to get coffee ... can you imagine a prairie winter without coffee?? Anyhow - its a little daily ritual I take great pleasure in ... especially when I can share it with friends & a good chin wag ...

all of these things ... make up a room we love to spend time in & tell a story ... our story .... I think that's where some folks get a little muddled up ... they find inspiration everywhere ... spaces they love and want to incorporate that feeling into their own home & get frustrated when it doesn't feel like them & by the tie in the things that DO look like them ,the things they can't bear to part with ... it looks, well... muddled...

so maybe now would be a good time to introduce the event myself & one other local business owner are hosting later this year [ Saturday, November 4 to be exact ]... the day is centered around living intentionally in all areas of your life , including your home , wardrobe & wellness...

I often hear from fellow Prairie women that they feel alone - this day will not only be an opportunity to grow & start taking steps towards living your best - but also a place to connect with other like minded women ... I believe right to my core that we are stronger together.  When we stop with all the judgey-ness & just accept people for who they are and have their backs.
